ROME.- The number 1 in the world, Jannik Sinnerqualified this Tuesday for the quarterfinals of Rome by defeating his compatriot Andrea Pellegrino (155th) and equaled the record of 31 consecutive victories of Novak Djokovic in Masters 1000 (the most important tournaments after the four Grand Slams).
Sinner, 24, put an end in two sets (6-2, 6-3) and one hour and 29 minutes of play to the Roman adventure of Pellegrino, who from the qualifying phase reached the round of 16 without having ever won a match in a Masters 1000 before.
In the quarterfinals, where he will face the Russian Andrey Rublev (N.14) or to Georgian Nikoloz Basilashvili (N.117), Sinner will have the opportunity to break the record and continue in the fight to win a sixth consecutive Masters 1000, after having done so in Paris at the end of 2025 and in Indian Wells, Miami, Monte Carlo and Madrid this same season.

The Masters 1000 in Rome is also the only one missing from his record and Italy would see one of his own win again in Rome since Adriano Panatta in 1976.
If he manages to win the final on Sunday, he will become the second player, after Djokovic, to have won all nine Masters 1000s on the calendar.
Sinner has also won the last 26 games he has played and has not lost since the quarterfinals of the Doha ATP 500in February.
