MADRID.- The president of real Madrid, Florentino Perezannounced this Tuesday that he is going to call elections and run for re-election, which is why he rules out a resignation after a season without titles.
The powerful leader, 79, stated in a press conference that he has asked “the electoral board to start the process.”
Pérez assured that he will seek a new mandate to face an “absurd campaign” against the Madrid giant, which lost 2-0 against the FC Barcelonahis eternal rival, who also won the League.
“I’m not going to resign,” Perez said. “I have made this decision because an absurd situation has been provoked to generate a current of opinion against the interests of Real Madrid.”
“I’ve been here for 26 years and it has been a wonderful time,” he said.
Campaigns against them
The Merengue president denounced journalistic campaigns and campaigns by different social sectors against the club, stating that they are taking advantage of the poor results of the season to attack him personally.
“I talk to people and they don’t understand the Spanish press,” he insisted, assuring that “I’m not going to leave until the partners tell me to leave.”
The president also pointed to the ultra fans of Real Madrid and the people who are dedicated to reselling as some of those who want him out of the presidency.
The Merengue president denied all rumors about his supposed poor health or that he is tired of leading the club.
“I want to put an end to this anti-Madrid movement that wants to put an end to Real Madrid,” said Pérez.
“I show up to return the assets to its partners,” he said.
“If someone wants to come and present themselves, let them not threaten and let them show up, but let them say what they are going to do, how they are going to finance it,” added Pérez, who had been re-elected as head of the white team last year.
“They say that Real Madrid is a case in point, but it is the most prestigious club in the world,” he insisted.
Pérez admitted to being frustrated like the rest of the Madrid fans due to the lack of titles and the latest incidents that occurred at the white club, such as the altercation between Federico Valverde and Aurélien Tchouaméni.
It seems very bad to me
“I think (the incident) is very bad and I think it’s worse that they brought it to light,” Pérez said of the fight, which ended with the two players fined 500,000 euros ($586,000).
“They have fought in all the years I have been here, but like young people fight,” Pérez said, downplaying the incident.
The merengue president also once again pointed to the so-called “Negreira case”, of alleged corruption in arbitration in Spain by Barcelona.
“We are making a 500-page dossier that I am going to send to the UEFAas soon as the competition is over,” said Pérez.
“It is the most serious case of corruption in football,” insisted the president, who continued to defend that he lost leagues because of this case.
“I have only won 7 Champions Leagues and 7 leagues, I could have won 14 because the others have been stolen from me,” he commented.
Spanish justice investigates alleged payments by Barcelona to companies José María Enriquez Negreiraformer number two of the referees.
Try to find out if these payments could have been used to try to obtain some advantage in the competition, something that Barcelona denies, claiming that they were from arbitration reports.
