Report: Melania Trump advocates for abortion rights in new book

According to a report, the former first lady of the USA, Melania Trump, clearly supports abortion rights in her upcoming book. As the Guardian reported on Wednesday, the wife of Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump wrote that women should have the right to decide whether they want to have children “based on their own beliefs and free from any interference or pressure from the government.”

“Why should anyone other than the woman herself have the power to decide what she does with her own body?” the newspaper quotes from the book “Melania”, which will be published next Tuesday. “A woman’s fundamental right to individual freedom and her own life gives her the right to terminate her pregnancy if she wishes,” Melania Trump adds in her memoirs. These statements are in clear contradiction to her husband’s stance on this important election issue.

Former President Trump repeatedly reminds arch-conservative supporters that his nomination of three conservative judges to the Supreme Court led to the abolition of the nationwide right to abortion in the USA after 50 years. Now he wants to leave the relevant regulations to the individual US states. Many of them have significantly tightened abortion rights after the Supreme Court decision.

Trump’s wife, on the other hand, apparently takes a very similar position on abortion rights to his rival Kamala Harris. The vice president and Democratic presidential candidate is a strong supporter of abortion rights and is a vocal advocate for reversing the Supreme Court’s repeal of the nation’s right to abortion.

According to the Guardian, Melania Trump writes: “Restricting a woman’s right to terminate an unwanted pregnancy is the same as denying her control over her own body.” She has held this belief throughout her entire adult life.
