Rematch between Pacquiao and Mayweather is postponed indefinitely

MANILA.- The revenge in the ring between boxing legends Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiaoscheduled for September, has been postponed indefinitely, the Filipino’s team announced on Friday in Manila.

In a statement it was specified that this fight cannot be held until early 2027 at the earliest.

This decision follows “a mix of federal investigations, scheduling issues and financial stagnation surrounding the Mayweather camp,” Pacquiao’s representatives explained in a statement released Friday.

The promotion company CSI sued Mayweather last week to recover $4.6 million that it says it paid the boxer for exclusive rights to promote Pacquiao’s fight and another exhibition against Mike Tyson.

After last February Netflix announced the fight scheduled for September 19 in Vegas, Mayweather stated that it would only be an exhibition, while Pacquiao maintained that he had signed a contract for an official fight.

Second cancellation

This announcement comes the day after the ESPN network announced the cancellation of the exhibition fight between Mayweather and the Greek kickboxing star. Mike Zambidisscheduled for June 27 in Athens.

The American Mayweather and the Filipino Pacquiao, two former world champions on several occasions, are part of the boxing pantheon, and they faced each other on May 2, 2015 in Las Vegas, for the unified welterweight title.

The American won on points unanimously, in a fight that generated record revenues of $4.6 million in pay-per-view.

Mayweather, 49 years old, retired professionally in 2017 with a perfect record of 50 wins and no losses. Since then he has multiplied his appearance in exhibition fights.

For his part, Pacquiao, 47, also retired from the ring in 2021, with a record of 62 wins, 3 draws and 8 losses.

The star came out of retirement in July 2025 to face the American Mario Barriosa fight that ended in a draw.
