ARIZONA.- The president of the United States, Donald Trump, He referred again to the purpose of liberation of the Cuban people and affirmed that “very soon” there will be “a new dawn for Cuba.”
His statements were in reference to the possibility of the US carrying out a military operation against the island’s regime.
“We have many extraordinary Cuban Americans – I don’t think there are many in this audience, to be honest -; but if you go to Miami, there we have people, Cuban Americans, people who were treated with brutality, whose families were murdered and victims of atrocities; and now, look what will happen under this new stage,” he said.
During an event in Phoenix, Arizona, as part of the conservative Turning Point USA event, the head of state also referred to the US military intervention in Iran and, linking ideas, said that “this great strength will also bring with it a day that has been awaited for 70 years,” reports the Diario de Cuba web portal.
“It’s called a new dawn for Cuba,” Trump said.
After Iran, Cuba
At the end of March, President Trump had indicated that once the conflict with Iran ended, “Cuba would be next.”
Along these lines, the Secretary of State, Marco Rubio, stressed the need for regime change on the Island and its government system to once again support the country.
The president’s statements come after the media outlet Axios revealed that US State Department officials met in Havana with senior officials of the Cuban regime, including Raúl Castro’s grandson, Raúl Guillermo Rodríguez Castro, known as “El Cangrejo.”to urge the defense of democratic and economic freedoms and warn about the risks of not following their advice.
The meeting, which would have taken place on Friday, April 10, is described by Axios as “a diplomatic milestone, since it is the first time that a US Government plane has landed in Cuba since President Obama’s visit a decade ago, in an attempt to achieve rapprochement.”
A senior State Department official told the media that several meetings were held, but did not reveal the identity of the participants, except for one: Raúl Guillermo Rodríguez Castro, grandson of Raúl Castro.
