Trump and his advisor Elon Musk responsible for the cost and personnel reductions have declared the authority in the USAID responsible for worldwide development aid and humanitarian aid to one of the primary objects of their clearing course. The Vice President of the AFSA union, Randy Chester, confirmed media reports on Thursday, according to which the staff of the authority is to be coated from more than 10,000 worldwide to almost 300 – a reduction of 97 percent.
With effect from this Friday, almost the entire USAID staff in the United States and abroad has already been permitted. Trump had suspended almost all the government’s foreign aids shortly after taking office.
In their lawsuit submitted to a federal court in Washington, the unions AFSA and AFGE call the procedure of the Trump government “unconstitutional and illegal”. They lead to the field that the authority’s handling should not be done without the consent of the congress.
The lawsuit states that the Trump government’s previous measures had already triggered a “global humanitarian crisis” by “abruptly stopped” the activities of USAI employees and partners of the authority. AFSA Vice Chester said in front of journalists: “At some point we will have to set the distribution of food.”
According to the “New York Times”, the few USAID employees who are supposed to be spared by personnel cuts are those that specialize in health and humanitarian aids. The USA management was also informed that 800 programs and contracts of the authority were canceled.
The authority has so far had an annual budget of $ 42.8 billion (around 41.9 billion euros). According to the latest data to distribute their help, Ukraine, Ethiopia and Jordan were the greatest recipients in 2023.
Trump and High-Tech Multimilliarch Musk, who headed a newly founded government agency for state efficiency (Doge), have attacked a lot in recent days. Trump said the authority was led by “a bunch of radical crazy”. Musk called USAD “a snake’s nest radical leftist Marxists who hate America”, and a “criminal organization”.
Trump wrote on Friday in his online service Truth Social in capital letters: “Corruption is at a level as rarely seen before. It is tight!” The way in which the authority spent money was “fraudulent” and “completely inexplicable”.
In addition to the USA, the clear waves operated by Trump and Musk sends shock waves by the staff of all US federal authorities. In a circular email, the new government had set the federal employees a minute before midnight (local time) a period until Thursday – until then they should report whether they accept a severance payment of eight monthly salaries and voluntarily leave.
A few hours before the deadline, however, a federal judge in the state of Massachusetts temporarily exposed the ultimatum. Judge George A. O’Toole Jr. described the ultimatum according to the “Washington Post” as “arbitrary, illegal, rushed”. Several unions have sued the severance payment program.
The government of the government of January 28 was entitled “fork”. In order to accept the severance payment, the employees were asked to only type the word “resign” (“terminate”) into the subject line of their answer. An employee in the authority for personnel management (OPM), from where the mail was sent, told the AFP news agency, the goal was to sow “panic” and to trigger dismissals. According to Trump’s spokeswoman Karoline Leavitt, more than 40,000 employees had accepted the severance payment until Thursday.
Critics hold the legal nationalist Trump and Musk, they also wanted to get rid of politically unpopular employees in the authorities and ministries through the wave of discharge.
