LIME- The former Peruvian president Pedro Castillo, held in a prison in Lima, will be subjected to trial as of March 4, after his failed attempt to dissolve Congress in 2022, the Judiciary reported Monday.
Castillo, 55, will sit on the bench to respond in “oral trial (…) as co -author of the crime of rebellion and as an author of abuse of authority,” said the Judiciary in the Social Network X.
The ex -president, official, who ruled between 2021 and 2022, turns 18 months of preventive detention at the request of the Prosecutor’s Office, which accuses him of trying a “coup d’etat.” The agency asks for a 34 -year prison sentence.
The Court confirmed that the hearings will be held in person and virtual from the Special Prison for former presidents on the outskirts of Lima.
Castillo was captured on December 7, 2022, when he failed in his attempt to dissolve Congress and govern by decree.
“I never got up in arms,” Castillo alleged in audiences before magistrates, indicating that his request to dissolve the Congress was not consumed because his orders were not followed by the Armed Forces.

Castillo failed in his plan to dissolve the legislative when he was investigated for alleged corruption, was also dismissed when he had been in power for 17 months.
His vice president, Dina Boluarte, assumed the position in the midst of demonstrations that demanded her resignation, the closing of the Congress and the advancement of elections.
