MIAMI.- Florida set a new record as a US tourist destination by receiving 34.6 million tourists in the third quarter, 1.8% more than the same period last year, according to Governor Ron DeSantis.
“The free state of Florida continues to break records in tourism,” said Governor DeSantis. “It is a testament to our model, and we will continue to lead our state with common sense, fiscal responsibility, environmental stewardship and a penchant for freedom.”
This figure represents the highest number of visits recorded in a third quarter for Florida. During July, August and September of this year, the Sunshine State received 31.8 million domestic visitors, 2.3 million foreigners and 582,000 Canadians.
It also represents the third consecutive quarter of record visitation numbers, highlighting the continued growth of domestic and international travel, according to a press release issued from Tallahassee.
“The first three quarters of 2024 show an increase of two million visitors compared to the same period of the previous year,” the report states.
“The hard work and resilience of Floridians has been instrumental in keeping our tourism industry strong, showcasing the best our state has to offer,” said Dana Young, president and CEO of VISIT FLORIDA.
VISIT FLORIDA highlighted in its report that domestic visitors to the Sunshine State represented 91.8% of the total.
In this context, total boardings at the state’s 19 airports reached 25.6 million, 1.3% more than the previous year. Notable growth was seen at airports such as Pensacola and Palm Beach.
