Dolphins victory breaks drought for Florida teams

It was not an easy week for football fans in the state of Florida. Although the Miami Dolphins They managed to get back on the path to victory on Monday night, when they defeated the Los Angeles Rams by a score of 23-15, the overall balance was quite negative.

The victory for those led by Mike McDaniel came after Florida State teams in the FCS, FBS and NFL went 0-11 combined last weekend.

It all started on Saturday and no Florida college team could escape misfortune. In an unprecedented sweep, nine of the state’s 10 Division I teams suffered setbacks: the previously undefeated Miami Hurricanes, the Florida Gators, the Florida State Seminoles, the UCF Knights, the South Florida Bulls, the Florida Atlantic Owls, Bethune-Cookman Wildcats, Florida A&M Rattlers and Stetson Hatters.

In the NFL, the Minnesota Vikings kept Florida winless with a 12-7 victory over the Jacksonville Jaguars and the San Francisco 49ers did the same by defeating the Tampa Bay Buccaneers 23-20.

Joy from other sides

Off the football field, however, Florida sports fans had several reasons to celebrate in that span. The Florida Panthers, in the NHL, defeated the Philadelphia Flyers on penalties (4-3) on Saturday.

In the NBA, the Miami Heat beat the Minnesota Timberwolves 95-94 on Sunday and the Orlando Magic secured a 121-94 victory over the Washington Wizards.

With the Dolphins’ victory, the team managed to shake off the recent bad streak; However, there is doubt as to whether the team’s reaction took a long time to arrive.
