World's oldest man reveals his nutritional secret for a long life

The world's oldest man says the secret to his long life is luck, moderation and fish and chips every Friday.

Englishman John Alfred Tinniswood, 111, has been confirmed as the new holder of the Guinness World Records title. He follows the death of Venezuelan record holder, Juan Vicente Pérez, at the age of 114. Gisaburo Sonobe from Japan, who was the next oldestdied on March 31 at age 112.

Tinniswood received a certificate from Guinness World Records at the residence where he lives in Southport, northwest England.

Born in Liverpool on August 26, 1912, just months after the sinking of the Titanic, Tinniswood lived through two world wars and served in the British Army Pay Corps in the Second World War.

The retired accountant and great-grandfather said moderation was key to healthy living. He never smokes, rarely drinks, and does not follow any special diet.apart from a fish and chips dinner once a week.

If you drink too much, eat too much or walk too much, if you do too much of anything, you will eventually suffer,” Tinniswood told Guinness World Records.

But ultimately, he said, “It's pure luck. You either live a lot or you live a little, and you can't do much about it.”.

The oldest woman in the world and the oldest living person is the Spanish María Branyas Morera, 117 years old.
