World champion leaves Manchester City and signs for Atlético de Madrid

The forward Argentine Julian Alvarez decided to leave the Manchester City to the Atletico Madridthrough an agreement that according to some reports would exceed $100 million.

Álvarez told Spanish coach Pep Guardiola that he wanted to take on a new challenge after two successful years in the ranks of the current English Premier League champions.

Guardiola said on Friday that there was an agreement between the two clubs for the transfer of Alvarez, who is a starting striker for Argentina but did not play for the Citizens.

“If you are not happy, why should you stay?” Guardiola asked. “When you think happiness is somewhere else, you have to go there and have a look.”

City could receive up to 95 million euros ($104 million) for the 24-year-old, who joined from River Plate in 2022 for 14 million pounds ($17.8 million at current exchange rates).
