After a new disappointment in a season that has been full of them for the Miami Dolphinsthe team led by Mike McDaniel will try to turn the page in the sixth week of activities, when the Los Angeles Chargers this Sunday.
But with a view to reversing the adverse streak that the team has had so far this season, McDaniel will need the contribution of each of its members, especially those called to be protagonists, such as the quarterback. Tua Tagovailoa.
Tagovailoa has been dealing with some physical discomfort in recent days, but the star player is expected to be in the starting lineup for the South Florida residents for the upcoming duel against the Californians.
Miami offensive coordinator Frank Smithnoted before Thursday’s practice that the team had no real concern with its quarterback’s health, even though Tagovailoa was limited in Wednesday’s practice with issues with his hip and the thumb on his throwing hand.
“We are working on the process until Sunday,” Smith told reporters. “But we don’t anticipate any setbacks that will prevent him from playing that day.”
The quarterback missed the end of the 2024 season with an injury to his right hip, but Smith said he is not sure if the current problem is in the same area.
Occupational hazards
“Both (injuries) are part of the position he plays, which comes with contact,” the instructor recalled. “But ultimately we’re working with it and we don’t anticipate any of it having an impact on his performance on Sunday,” he added.
Regarding how the thumb injury occurred, Smith indicated that he is not sure when it happened.
“I can’t remember exactly what it was like, but yeah, he’s dealing with some things during the week and overall we’re not worried about Sunday,” he said.
The Dolphins are coming off a loss to the Panthers in their most recent challenge, in which they let a lead of up to 17 points slip away.
