After the presentation of the peace plan of US President Donald Trump for an end to the Gaza War, the pressure on the Islamist Palestinian organization Hamas is growing. US President Donald Trump gave the terrorist organization “about three or four days” on Tuesday (local time Washington) to react to his plan. Hamas said that he was carefully checked. Internationally, the project – also with Arab and Muslim representatives – had met with a positive response.
Trump introduced the 20-point plan on Monday (local time) at a meeting with Israel’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in Washington. Netanyahu agreed. States such as Egypt, Turkey and Qatar are said to have reacted positively to the project.
The plan provides for the release of all 48 Israeli hostages within 72 hours. In return, Israel wants to relieve several hundred Palestinians from custody. At the same time, the army should gradually withdraw from the Gaza Strip. Hamas members can receive or leave amnesty when giving weapons. The Hamas still holds 48 hostages in the Gaza Strip, including German citizens. According to Israeli information, 20 of the kidnapped are still alive.
Trump said that now you just wait for Hamas. “And Hamas will either agree or not, and if it does not agree, it will take a very sad end.” He emphasized that all Arab and Muslim countries had agreed – just like Israel.
Speculation about Hamas reaction
From the Hamas circles it was said that the terrorist organization had received the proposal from the Qatar and Egyptian intermediaries. Accordingly, the Islamists want to “carefully check the plan” before they give an official answer.
How the terrorist organization will react remained open at first. Observers calculated with possible demands or restrictions. However, the broadcaster i24news reported that from Israeli perspective there was no scope – Hamas could only accept or reject the plan.
The BBC quoted a rank-high Hamas representative who said that Trump’s peace plan was probably rejected because he “serves the interests of Israel” and “ignoring the interests of the Palestinian people”. Hamas is probably not ready to give up her weapons. However, this is a central condition of Trump’s plan.
Another essential sticking point for Hamas is likely to be that she asked to release all hostages at once – and thus give up their only negotiating mass. In other media reports, however, it is said that Hamas tends to accept the plan.
In Europe, France, Germany and Great Britain expressed a positive statement and asked Hamas to also agree. The Palestinian Authority also welcomed the plan and spoke from one step to a two -state solution.
Right -wing extremist coalition partners Netanyahus, on the other hand, reacted with sharp criticism – they had called for an annexation and resettlement of the coastal strip, from which Israel had withdrawn 20 years ago.
Qatar: Plan is still in the early stages
The Golfemirate Qatar, which occurs in the conflict as an intermediary, sees the peace plan for clarifying details and further negotiations. “The plan is still in the initial stages and must be further developed and explained,” said the catarian head of government Mohammed bin Abdulrahman al Thani to the news channel al-Dschaira.
Above all, there is still a need for clarification on the mechanism for the Israeli troop deduction from the coastal area. The plan presented by Trump requires a “discussion about details and how they are to be implemented,” said Al Thani, according to Al-Dschaira.
With the presentation of his peace plan, Trump, as has often been the case, awakened hopes for an end to the Gaza War. However, as in previous suggestions, there are open questions that aroused doubts after the announcement in Washington, whether the plan can really lead to the end of the war.
After his return, Netanyahu said that in Washington he had agreed with Trump a framework for the release of all Israeli hostages and the achievement of the war goals. He wanted to introduce details in the cabinet.
WadePhul: Federal Government wants to support the implementation of the plans
According to Foreign Minister Johann WadePhul, the Federal Government is available to specifically support the implementation of the plans. At the same time, the CDU politician made it clear that the solution now proposed would not be implemented immediately.
“There are a lot of pressing questions of how,” he told the newspapers of the Funke media group. “How will the Gaza Strip be managed in the future? How is security? How is humanitarian care restored? How is the reconstruction organized? “It will remain a tedious process.”
According to WadePhul, Germany can contribute a lot to solve operational questions. The Federal Government has already agreed to participate in the reconstruction of the Gaza Strip, which could be an incentive to agree on the peace plan. He will travel to Qatar again on Sunday.
Central points of the plan
In addition to the release of the hostages and the gradual withdrawal of the Israeli army from the Gaza Strip, the plan also provides that Hamas members must not be involved in the future administration, but they can receive or leave amnesty when they are levy. After the end of the war, a transitional government is to be used under international supervision.
Israel is neither allowed to annex nor occupy Gaza. An international team that also trains Palestinian police forces is to ensure security. An internationally financed reconstruction plan with investments and a special economic zone should create jobs and pave the way for a two -state solution in the long term.
Background of the war
The war was triggered by the massacre in Israel carried out by terrorists of Hamas and other organizations, in which around 1,200 people were killed on October 7, 2023 and more than 250 others were dragged into the Gaza strips as hostages. According to the health authority controlled by the Hamas, more than 66,000 Palestinians have been killed in the Gaza Strip, including numerous women and children.
