Venezuelan footballer confirms a hard reality: “The passport weighs more than people believe”

He Venezuelan footballer Nicolás “Miku” Fedorcurrently in the Metropolitanos FC of the Venezuelan League (Futve), he spoke in the podcast Thefelitotvconducted by Josep Pedrerolon the barriers that Venezuelan players still face to sign for great European clubs, in contrast to nationalities such as the Brazilian or Argentina.

“When you say a Brazilian, you say: ‘Well, bring it, the guy has to know how to run and play’. But when you say ‘a Venezuelan’, it’s like …” said Miku, pointing out the unequal perception in European offices.

Trajectory in Spain: performance against stereotypes

Miku accumulated an outstanding trajectory in Spain, playing in LaLiga and Second Division, with figures that underline their performance:

Team season (s) games (LaLiga) goals

Valencia CF. 2009–2010 2 0

Getafe Cf. 2010–2013. 92 26

Ray Vallecano 2015–2017 43 13

“I have lived it in my meats. It is not that the passport weighs literally, but you do have to do a little more than the others to see you,” Miku added. “I have lived it in my meats. It is not that the passport weighs literally, but you do have to do a little more than the others to see you,” Miku added.

And put two emblematic examples:

“The clearest example that I see is with Rondón, with Solomon. He made 14 goals with 20 years in Malaga, and the following year he also made more than 10 … and nobody from a Top League opted for him. He ended up signing in Russia.”

Juan Arango’s legacy and the power of the World Cup

Miku also valued the role of Juan Arango on the way to open in LaLiga:

“It is true that Juan came, opens the doors and showed that a Venezuelan could give up in the league … from there I played, then Solomon, (Roberto) Rosales … Every time they have come more, but still cost us.”

And reinforced the importance of events such as the World Cup:

“That’s why the World Cups are so important. Those boys are not aware of what they are going to do for our future.”
