The impact of the title Venezuela in it World Baseball Classic continues to generate consequences, now also on a symbolic level: the country will officially have its National Baseball Day.
The president in charge Delcy Rodriguez announced that March 17 will be the date to commemorate the historic victory of the national team, which won the tournament for the first time after beating the United States in the final.
A title that marked a before and after
The 3-2 victory in Miami not only represented Venezuela’s first world championship in this tournament, but also one of the greatest sporting milestones in the country’s history.
The team led by Omar López had a memorable journey, eliminating powers like Japan and consolidating a generation that is already considered golden within Venezuelan baseball.
Figures such as Ronald Acuña Jr., Luis Arráez and MVP Maikel García were key in a championship that sparked celebrations inside and outside the country.
A tribute that comes from the locker room itself
The initiative to immortalize this achievement will also have a physical space. Rodríguez announced the creation of a “Walk of Stars” in Caracas, where the protagonists of the conquest will be recognized.
The idea arose from a proposal by Acuña Jr. himself, who shared an image of the Hollywood Walk of Fame on social networks with the message of replicating something similar in Venezuela, including all the players who made history.
Baseball, more than a sport in Venezuela
Beyond the decree, the measure reflects the cultural weight of baseball in the country. The conquest of the Classic achieved something unusual: uniting millions of Venezuelans around the same emotion, inside and outside its borders.
March 17 thus becomes a date that not only remembers a title, but also celebrates the baseball identity of an entire nation.
