USA trip: Zelenskyj promotes Biden, Harris and Trump "Victory plan"

What’s next in the Ukraine war? Volodymyr Zelenskyy traveled to the USA to present a plan for lasting peace with Russia.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyj sees the autumn as a crucial phase for the further course and end of the war. “Together with our partners, we can strengthen our position as necessary for our common victory – for a truly just peace,” Zelensky said in his daily video address. According to him, a fair result is when Russia has to answer for the war of aggression and feels its consequences. This time Zelensky gave his speech on board a plane. Shortly afterwards, the president’s press service published images of his landing in the USA.

In his video speech, Zelensky announced that he would present the so-called victory plan to US President Joe Biden, the two presidential candidates Kamala Harris and Donald Trump and both parties in Congress. He said he would also present the plan, the details of which he had not yet disclosed, to other state leaders.

Appearance before the UN General Assembly

The reason for Zelenskyj’s trip is the UN Future Summit. Today the Ukrainian president wants to speak at the future summit at the UN headquarters. According to his office, Zelensky is scheduled to attend the UN Security Council meeting on the Ukraine issue on Tuesday and is expected to speak at the UN General Assembly on Wednesday.

On the sidelines of the event, Zelenskyj wants to hold talks with international heads of state and government. A meeting with Chancellor Olaf Scholz is also planned.

Important trip for Zelenskyj

Aside from the major UN event, Zelensky is also using the trip to once again drum up support in Washington from both parties ahead of the upcoming US presidential election. He will be received by President Biden at the White House, among others.

The USA is the most important military supporter of Ukraine, which has been defending itself against a Russian war of aggression for two and a half years. While Kiev can be relatively certain of continued support from Washington if the Democrats win, Republican presidential candidate Trump’s foreign policy course with regard to Ukraine is unclear. During the election campaign, he stated several times that he wanted to achieve a quick peace, but did not say how or under what conditions.

Situation in Ukraine difficult

While Zelensky is looking for further help abroad, the situation at home remains difficult. There were further Russian attacks on Ukraine during the night. In Ternopol, the power went out in parts of the city during the night. Media previously reported an explosion at a substation. According to official information, there were no injuries

The governor of the southern Ukrainian region of Zaporizhzhia, Ivan Fyodorov, also reported explosions. The anti-aircraft defense had previously warned against the dropping of Russian glide bombs. There was initially no further information about the consequences. Ukraine’s hinterland is repeatedly attacked using drones, rockets and guided bombs.

Meanwhile, fighting at the front continues with sudden intensity. According to the General Staff in Kiev, there were more than 100 clashes between Russian and Ukrainian troops during the day. The Russian military once again carried out the most intensive attacks between the cities of Pokrovsk and Kurachowe in the Donetsk region of eastern Ukraine, according to the evening situation report.
