US Vice President Vance is traveling to Orban in Hungary shortly before the parliamentary elections

US Vice President JD Vance will travel to the Eastern European country shortly before the general election in Hungary and meet Prime Minister Viktor Orban. The visit by US President Donald Trump’s deputy is planned for next Tuesday and Wednesday, the White House announced on Thursday. The parliamentary election in Hungary is the following Sunday, April 12th.

The US government had already provided election campaign assistance in February for the right-wing nationalist Orban, who maintains close relations with Trump and is pursuing a Russia-friendly course in the Ukraine war. At that time, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio traveled to Budapest and demonstratively stood behind the controversial head of government: “I can tell you with confidence that President Trump is deeply committed to your success, because your success is our success,” said Rubio at a joint press conference with Orban.

In Hungary, Orban, who has been in power continuously since 2010, is fighting for re-election. In polls, however, the right-wing nationalist is behind opposition leader Peter Magyar.
