WASHINGTON.– The president of the Foreign Relations Committee of the Senate of USAJim Risch, urged the interim authorities of Venezuela to start adopting measures “irreversible” towards a transition in the country. after criticizing the appointment of attorney general Larry Davoe for Parliament.
Risch, a Republican senator, considered in a statement that Davoe’s appointment “is a missed opportunity.”
“The recent appointment of Larry Devoe as Attorney General of Venezuela represented a missed opportunity to give a greater voice to independent voices than to those close to the former Maduro regime,” wrote Risch, on his official X account.
Risch’s criticism is one of the first calls for attention since Washington resumed relations with Caracas, after the capture of Nicolás Maduro on January 3, according to the news report.
Towards a transition in Venezuela
The senator immediately urged the adoption of “irreversible” measures
“The Venezuelan interim authorities must begin to take irreversible measures towards a transition that guarantees stability and economic recovery,” Risch concluded in his statement.
Larry Devoe, a lawyer linked to Chavismo, was elected attorney general by the Venezuelan Parliament, with a pro-government majority, on April 9 in the context of the Amnesty Law process, promulgated last February, within the framework of talks with the United States.
The lawyer has been criticized for his role in international hearings such as the ICC, where human rights violations have been reported in Venezuela, and during his short performance he has not cleared up doubts about his impartiality in favor of guarantees.
This Monday, Gabriel González, a journalist who collaborates with the opposition leader María Corina Machado, reported that he was denied amnesty, despite the fact that, he said, a court previously informed him that he was one of the beneficiaries, a case that has been repeated in cases of people linked to the leader María Corina Machado.
