US President Donald Trump landed in Tel Aviv

After the first surviving hostages returned to Israel from the Gaza Strip, US President Donald Trump landed in Tel Aviv on board the presidential plane Air Force One. As AFP reporters reported, Trump was received at Ben-Gurion Airport on Monday morning by, among others, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and President Isaac Herzog.

During his less than four-hour visit to Israel, Trump was expected to meet with hostage relatives and give a speech to the Knesset, Israel’s parliament, in Jerusalem.

In addition, according to Israeli head of state Herzog, Trump should be awarded the Israeli Presidential Medal of Honor – the country’s highest civilian award. Trump “not only helped bring our loved ones home, but also laid the foundation for a new era in the Middle East based on security, cooperation and real hope for a peaceful future,” Herzog explained on Monday.

After his departure from Israel, Trump travels on to a Middle East summit he is hosting in the Egyptian seaside resort of Sharm el-Sheikh, in which several Arab and European heads of state and government are taking part – including Federal Chancellor Friedrich Merz (CDU). According to the Egyptian government, a document “to end the war in the Gaza Strip” will be signed at the summit.
