Donald Trump regularly uses highly controversial language. He does not shy away from making references to Nazi Germany. A video he shared has once again caused outrage.
A video clip distributed by former US President Donald Trump with linguistic references to Nazi Germany is causing outrage. On Monday, Trump shared a video on the Truth Social platform, which he co-founded, in which fictional newspaper articles were shown about the possible scenario that the Republican presidential candidate could win again in the US election in November.
The 30-second clip was no longer publicly available yesterday, Tuesday. One of the headlines in it spoke, among other things, of the creation of a “united empire” in the event of a Trump election victory. The term Reich is often associated with the Nazis' “Third Reich” in Germany.
Trump stands out with hateful language
Trump's entourage confirmed that the clip had now been “removed” from his account. When asked, a spokeswoman for Trump's campaign team said it was not a video from the election campaign. It came from some account and was spread on Trump's account by an employee “who obviously didn't see the word” while the ex-president himself was in the courtroom in New York. Trump is currently the first former president in US history to appear in court in a criminal trial in New York.
Trump wants to run again in the presidential election in November against the Democratic incumbent Joe Biden. During the election campaign, Trump regularly uses radical rhetoric, uses hateful and dehumanizing language, makes racist statements and incites against minorities. He has denigrated political opponents as “vermin” in the past, which Biden in turn described as Nazi rhetoric. In other campaign appearances, Trump said, for example, that some migrants are not “people” at all – or that migrants “poison the blood of our country.”
At a campaign event in mid-March, Trump spoke about how he wanted to make it more difficult to sell Chinese cars on the US market. He added: “If I'm not elected, there will be a bloodbath. (…) It will be a bloodbath for the country.” That also made big waves. Trump recently compared the Biden government to the Gestapo, the Nazi Secret State Police.
Team Biden reacts
Biden's campaign team sharply criticized Trump: “He is echoing the words of the fascists and promising a 'bloodbath' and possible violence if he loses in November.” The fact that Trump is now spreading a video about a “united empire” is part of a pattern. “He is a threat to our democracy.”
White House spokeswoman Karine Jean-Pierre also made a sharp statement: “It is abhorrent, disgusting and shameful for anyone to promote content that is associated with the German Nazi government under Adolf Hitler.”
