US Democratic governors pledge support for Biden

The Democratic Party governors in the USA have pledged their support to Joe Biden after his weak performance in the televised debate against his opponent Donald Trump. “We said we would stand by his side,” said the governor of the state of Maryland, Wes Moore, on Wednesday (local time) after a meeting with Biden in the White House. The governor of Minnesota, Tim Walz, said Biden was “fit” for the office.

The Democratic governors had spoken to Biden in the White House about the consequences of his appearance in the televised debate. Biden – at 81, the oldest president in US history – had spoken with a hoarse voice during the TV debate with his likely challenger Trump on CNN last week, repeatedly getting tangled up in his formulations and not finishing sentences.

Since the appearance, a debate has erupted among Democrats about whether they should replace the 81-year-old with another candidate for the presidential election.
