Two Japanese boxers died from injuries suffered in separate fights in the same event in Tokyo, authorities reported.
The super weight Shigethyi Kotari and the lightweight weight Urakawa, both 28 years old, fought on the same evening last August 2 in the Korakuen Hall in Tokyo.
Both were transferred to the hospital where they were subjected to brain surgeries.
Kotari reached a draw after 12 assaults against his compatriot Yamato Hata, and shortly after he was unconscious.
He died on the night of August 8, his MT Boxing gym reported on Saturday night on his website.
Urakawa’s fight was arrested in the eighth and last assault against Yoji Sait World Boxing Organization On Instagram.
Urakawa died Saturday night, according to the local press.
Tsuyoshi Yasukochi, general secretary of the Japanese Boxing Commission, told local media that it could be “the first time in Japan that two fighters had skull opening surgeries for wounds suffered in the same event.”
