Trump: Process against Netanyahu harms negotiations with Hamas and Iran

In the domestic argument about a corruption process against Israel Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, US President Donald Trump has again clearly positioned position for Netanyahu and justified this with negotiations by the head of government on the release of the hostages in the Gaza Strip. “This ‘judiciary’ farce will affect both the negotiations with Iran and Hamas,” Trump explained on Saturday in his online service Truth Social.

Netanyahu is currently in the process of negotiating an agreement with the radical Islamic Hamas prevailing in the Gaza Strip, the US President stated. This will also contain the release of the hostages deported to the Palestinian area from Israel. “How can it be that Israel’s Prime Minister can be forced to sit in the courtroom all day?” Trump was outraged. The US President did not carry out what negotiations he spoke to Iran.

“The United States of America make billions of dollars, far more than any other country, to protect and support Israel,” emphasized Trump on Truth. “We won’t tolerate that,” he added with a view to the legal approach to Netanyahu.

On Friday, an Israeli court of Netanyahus had rejected an application to postpone its hearings planned for the next two weeks. Immediately after this decision, Netanyahu’s lawyer filed a new application for shift. The head of government, who rejects all allegations, calls for the shift in his hearings with reference to the tense security situation in the Middle East.

In the process, which started four years ago, Netanyahu and his wife Sara are accused of having accepted more than 221,000 euros in return for political favors by billionaires luxury goods such as cigars, jewelry and champagne. In two other cases, the head of government is said to have tried to negotiate favorable reporting with Israeli media.

In December, Netanyahu, in the process, which was several times in the Gaza Strip, among other things because of the war in the Gaza Strip, had first testified and rejected the allegations as “ridiculous”. He is the first acting Israeli head of government who has to answer in a criminal proceedings.

On Wednesday, Trump said that the process was a “witch hunt” comparable to the one, which he himself had exposed to the White House with his legal persecution in the United States. Netanyahus process should “be set immediately or a large hero,” said Trump.

Israel has been war against Hamas since October 7, 2023. The Gaza War had been triggered by a major attack by the radical Islamic Palestinian organization on Israel, in which, according to Israeli information, more than 1210 people killed and 251 were dragged into the Gaza strip as hostages. Of these, 49 are still held as hostages by the Islamists, at least 27 of them are dead, according to the Israeli army.

This month, Israel had started a major attack on the Hamas supporter Iran because of its nuclear and rocket program. A ceasefire has been in the conflict since Tuesday.
