Cristiano Ronaldo shows his new contract in Saudi Arabia

At 40, the Portuguese Cristiano Ronaldo renewed his contract with the Al Nassr of Saudi Arabia until 2027the club announced Thursday.

“The story continues …”: with a video first and with a message on the social network X, the Al-Nassr announced the renewal for two years of the Portuguese star, which arrived in Saudi Arabia in early 2023.

His arrival made several players, especially in the last years of their careers, were seduced by Saudi football.

A month ago Ronaldo published that “this chapter is over” hours after the end of the Saudi Championship, in which his club ended third and without trophies, which was interpreted as his departure.

“The presence of Ronaldo has been a key factor in the development of the Saudi Pro League in the last two and a half years. It opens the door to elite players already young to come to Saudi Arabia,” a source of the Public Investment Fund (PIF), the largest investor in Saudi football last month.

This sovereign fund controls several clubs in the championship, including Al-Nassr, Al-Hilal or Al-Ahli, in addition to financing other great sporting events in the country.

Despite having been the top scorer of the championship, with 25 goals, Ronaldo has failed to win a national or continental title with Al-Nassr, falling eliminated in the semifinals of the Asian Champions League.

Last year, the five-time Golden Ball said he could end his career in Al-Nassr, Riad Club and the favorite of several members of the country’s royal family.

Saudi Arabia has stirred the world of football, investing huge amounts of money to attract European football stars. The country will be the headquarters of the 2034 World Cup.
