In the telephone discussion with NBC, from which presenter Kristen Kriste Welker quoted Welker on Sunday, Trump also threatened Russia on the trade in Russian oil. Trump said the tariffs were used if he and Moscow “cannot reach an agreement on the end of bloodshed in Ukraine and if I think Russia is to blame”.
At the same time, Trump announced further talks with Putin for the coming days. Trump justified his unusually sharp words in the direction of the Russian president with his recent statements about the credibility of Ukrainian President Wolodymyr Selenskyj.
Putin has represented Selenskyj as an illegal president of Ukraine for years. On Friday, he proposed to provide Ukraine under the administration of the UN.
In his part, Trump had made no secret of his admiration for Putin. After taking office in January, he already made a phone call with the Russian president about the situation in Ukraine.
So far, the US President Selenskyj has blamed that there was no ceasefire between Ukraine and Russia. At the end of February there was a scandal during a visit to Selenskyj’s in the White House in front of running cameras.
Trump had already promised to end the Ukraine War quickly during his presidential election campaign. So far, however, he has not yet made any breakthrough since he took office despite discussions with Russia such as Ukraine.
Representatives of the United States had held separate talks with Russia and Ukraine in Saudi Arabia last week about a possible fire break in the Russian attack war. There had been an agreement on a 30-day ceasefire on energy infrastructure and in the Black Sea. However, Moscow once again provided conditions for the implementation of the ceasefire.
Trump also confirms his threats towards Tehran in the conversation with NBC. “If you don’t make a deal, there will be bombing,” said Trump. Iran also threatened Trump with additional customs requirements. It was initially unclear whether Trump meant a possible sole US attack or a common military approach to the allied Israel in his threats.
Trump had offered Iran a “deal” several times in the past few weeks – and on the other hand threatened with military violence, it should not come about. The western states have accused Iran for years to strive for the construction of nuclear weapons. Tehran denies this. However, the country has strengthened its production of enriched uranium in recent years.
In 2015, Tehran signed an agreement that provided for the relaxation of sanctions in return for containing the Iranian nuclear program. During the first presidency of Trump, the United States retired one -sidedly from the agreement in 2018. Efforts to revive the nuclear agreement has failed since then.
