The FIFA and Adidas presented at Mexico City on TRIONDAthe official ball of the FIFA World Cup 2026™, the first edition in history to be held in three countries: Mexico, United States and Canada.
What does TRIONDA mean?
The name comes from the combination of two elements:
“Tri”: refers to the number three, symbol of the host nations.
“Wave”: refers to a wave of energy and unity that travels through countries and connects the world through football.
The design pays homage to national identities with three waves of color:
Red: with the Canadian maple leaf.
Green: with the royal eagle of Mexico.
Blue: with stars that represent the United States.
In addition, the gold finishes evoke the iconic FIFA World Cup trophy.
Technological innovation: the most advanced ball in history
The TRIONDA is not just a designer ball, but a high-tech piece created to enhance the show. Among its main novelties are:
Four-panel construction: a radical change from traditional hexagons, offering greater stability in flight and a more uniform bounce.
Embossed surface: Improves grip and precision in wet conditions.
Connected Ball Technology: Incorporates a 500 Hz motion chip that sends real-time data to the VAR. This allows faster offside decisions and accurately detects each touch of the ball in controversial plays (handballs, fouls or doubtful goals).
How much did it cost to do it?
Adidas has not revealed the exact development budget, but industry experts estimate that the investment in research, design and testing of this type of ball exceeds millions of dollars. The retail price of the TRIONDA will be around 150 to 170 euros (similar to previous official models), while its replica version will be available in cheaper editions for fans.
A historic World Cup
The 2026 edition will be the largest yet:
48 participating teams instead of 32.
104 games in total (compared to the previous 64).
16 venues spread across Mexico, Canada and the United States, organized into three regions to reduce team travel.
The TRIONDA symbolizes the union of three nations and marks a technological leap in the history of football. With an eye-catching design, premium finishes and cutting-edge technology, this ball will be the star of the 2026 FIFA World Cup™, a tournament that promises to break all records.
