Toyota returns to Formula 1 with the Haas team

TOKYO.- The car builder toyota will return to the Formula 1 after reaching an agreement with the American team haasthe Japanese brand announced this Friday.

Toyota will contribute its high technology to Haas and will be able to train its own engineers, mechanics and drivers in the Formula 1 ecosystem.

The Japanese manufacturer was present in Formula 1 with its own cars and engines between 2002 and 2009, before retiring without having won a race.

He currently participates in the World Endurance Championship (WEC) and the Rally Championship (WRC) with his Gazoo Racing racing team.

Haas has been present in Formula 1 since 2016. It is a team created by American Gene Haas, owner of a major machinery and tools company in the United States.

Equipped with Ferrari engines, its race director is the Japanese Ayao Komatsu and this year it has the duo of drivers formed by the German Nico Hulkenberg and the Dane Kevin Magnussen, who will be replaced next year by the French Esteban Ocon and the British Oliver Bearman.

Seventh in the constructors’ championship, Haas will carry the Toyota name from the next race, this month in Austin (United States).

Pogacar seeks more history

Tadej Pogacar aspires to close an extraordinary year on Saturday, one of the best seasons of a cyclist, equaling the record of four consecutive victories of the legend Fausto Coppi in the Giro di Lombardia, the last ‘Monument’ of the season.

The Slovenian superstar wrote another chapter in history last month when he was crowned world champion for the first time with an impressive 100km solo breakaway. A triumph in Zurich (Switzerland) that made him the third rider to win the rainbow jersey, the Tour de France and the Giro d’Italia in the same year, joining Stephen Roche and the icon Eddy Merckx.

Now, Pogacar points to Coppi’s poker victories between 1946 and 1949 in the so-called ‘Il Lombardia’ or ‘the classic of the dead leaves’, held in northern Italy.

“It’s been a perfect season for us this year, the whole team worked very hard and things really went well,” Pogacar commented before the classic. “I will undoubtedly look back on this year as a really special time. But it’s not over yet and we want to finish it off well.”
