Election campaign in the USA: Trump cancels participation in TV interview

The Republican presidential candidate does not want to appear on a CBS election show. One reason for this is said to be the conditions.

Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump has canceled his participation in an election special broadcast by US broadcaster CBS. Trump’s campaign team has withdrawn its commitment to the interview, the program “60 Minutes” on the X platform announced. Trump’s spokesman Steven Cheung wrote, however, that there had been discussions but no agreement. The station also insisted on live fact checks, which was “unprecedented”.

According to CBS, Democratic candidate Kamala Harris will appear on Monday’s broadcast as planned. The invitation to Trump remains.

“60 Minutes” is one of the most successful formats on US television and says it has been inviting presidential candidates for over 50 years. Harris and Trump are running against each other in the presidential election on November 5th.

Harris and Trump had a heated exchange of blows on September 10th in a TV duel hosted by ABC – the Democrat often drove the Republican into a corner. Harris subsequently demanded a second duel, but Trump announced that he no longer wanted to take part in any further debates.
