Voting for the 2026 Major League All-Star Game is already underway and the Miami Marlins hope to once again have a presence in the midseason event thanks to the excellent performance of several of their players during the first two months of the campaign.
The Florida organization has nine position players included in the official ballot: Liam Hicks (catcher), Connor Norby (first base), Xavier Edwards (second base), Javier Sanoja (third base), Otto López (shortstop), Kyle Stowers, Jakob Marsee and Owen Caissie (outfielders), in addition to Heriberto Hernández as designated hitter.
Of all of them, the only one with previous experience in an All-Star Game is Kyle Stowers, the Marlins’ representative in 2025. However, a stay on the injured list and a start to the season with lower power production considerably reduce his chances of repeating the distinction.
Miami’s best options appear to be Liam Hicks, Xavier Edwards and Otto López.
Hicks has been one of the great revelations among National League catchers. He entered Wednesday leading all catchers on the circuit with 46 RBIs and ranking third in FanGraphs WAR (1.4). In addition, he stands out for his discipline at the plate, accumulating more walks than strikeouts.
Edwards also stands out for his ability to get on base and his offensive consistency. The second baseman leads all players at his position in the National League with 2.6 fWAR and leads the Marlins with a wRC+ of 145. His durability has been another key factor, having participated in all 62 games played by the team to date.
For his part, Otto López has become one of the most pleasant surprises of the season by leading the entire Major Leagues in hits with 80, establishing himself as a fundamental piece in Miami’s lineup.
Despite these merits, the competition for a spot in the All-Star Game is usually marked by the popularity of the players and the support of the fans. Supporters can vote up to five times a day by email address during the first phase of the process, which will remain open until June 25 at noon ET.
The Marlins have not had a fan-elected All-Star starter since 2022, when Jazz Chisholm Jr. received that honor. Curiously, the then star player could not play the match due to an injury.
With several weeks still ahead before voting closes, Hicks, Edwards and López will try to maintain their high level to convince both fans and the MLB that they deserve a place among the great figures of the 2026 season.
