Swiatek suffers but is still alive at Roland Garros

The current triple champion, IGA Swiatekthis Friday was classified to the round of 16 Roland Garros Despite a second set matched before the Romanian Jaqueline Cristian (60th) by 6-2, 7-5.

The Polish has not lost any set in the French tournament and will face the Kazaja in the round of 16 Elena Rybakina (11th), who defeated a former tournament champion in two sets, the letona Jelena Ostapenko (21st).

The former world number 1, relegated to the fifth place in the WTA classification, does not conquer any title since it was imposed on the Parisian whipped land in 2024.

Before Cristian, Swiatek turned the two break balls he had at the beginning and end of the first set, which dominated with authority.

The second set was much more disputed, with signs of exasperation under an intense Parisian sun for the Warsaw player, who had to save six break balls.

Finally, the Romanian gave her service with 6-5, and Swiatek sealed the victory in her second match ball.

The 23 -year -old Polish was asked at a press conference about the lack of presence of female matches on Roland Garros’s night shift.

“There should be an equality, I personally do not have a categorical position on the subject (…) but there must be an equality because a female tennis party can be as fun as one of male tennis,” Swiatek said, in whose party the public made the traditional ‘wave’ raising his arms.
