Sinner defeats Djokovic and approaches his second Wimbledon title

WIMBLEDON.- The Italian Jannik Sinnerworld number one and winner of Wimbledon in 2025will seek his second title in the London tournament after beating the Serbian in the semifinals this Friday Novak Djokovicwho will not be able to match the Swiss’s eight victories Roger Federer.

Djokovic, who at 39 years old dreamed of adding a new Wimbledon to his record of seven titles and equaling Federer’s men’s record, could not stand up to Sinner, who won with ease 6-4, 6-4, 6-4.

The 24-year-old Italian will face the German in Sunday’s final Alexander Zverevwho in the other semi-final beat the British Arthur Ferynumber 114 in the world, by 7-6 (7/0), 6-2 and 6-4.

Sinner will seek his fifth Wimbledon title grand slam of his career, just a month after his surprising elimination in the second round of Roland Garros.

Djokovic, now eighth in the world rankings, could not equal Federer’s men’s record of eight titles, nor aim for his 25th victory in a Grand Slam tournament.

The Serbian leads the number of Grand Slam singles titles, adding his victories in the four most important tournaments in the world, with 24, ahead of the Spaniard Rafael Nadal (22) and Federer (20).

Djokovic, at 39 years old, paid dearly against Sinner for the great effort he made in the quarterfinals, on Tuesday against the Canadian Felix Auger-Aliassimewhich he won in five long sets, needing more than 5 hours and 15 minutes.

The Serbian leaves Wimbledon having broken the record for matches won in the men’s singles competition, with 107, surpassing the 105 that Federer had.

Sinner will aspire to win a new Grand Slam on Sunday, after having won twice in the Australian Open (2024 and 2025), one in Wimbledon (2025) and another in US Open (2025).

So far only the clay of Roland Garros resists the Italian among the four major tournaments.

Without Alcaraz on the way

Sinner has benefited at Roland Garros and Wimbledon due to the Spaniard’s absence due to a wrist injury. Carlos Alcarazworld number two.

Alcaraz, 23, was a finalist in the three previous editions of Wimbledon, winning in 2023 and 2024, and losing in 2025 to Sinner.
