Scott proposes Lara Trump as Rubio’s replacement in the Senate

MIAMI.- Senator Rick Scott urged Florida Governor Ron DeSantis to appoint Lara Trump, daughter-in-law of President Donald Trump, to replace Senator Marco Rubio, who is expected to resign to become secretary of State in the next administration.

Scott said Trump would be a strong addition to the Republican Party in Washington, citing her experience as co-chair of the Republican National Committee as well as her effectiveness as a spokesperson.

The lawmaker believes Trump embodies the values of the Republican Party and would be a strong supporter of the “Make America Great Again” agenda.

Scott expressed his support for the appointment of the president-elect’s daughter-in-law on social media and stated that she would be a “great senator” who would represent Floridians “well.”

Selection

However, DeSantis appears to be in no rush to announce a decision and has indicated that he will take his time to consider all options.

The governor said he plans to conduct a thorough screening process, including interviews with potential candidates, before making a selection, which is expected in early January.

DeSantis outlined his priorities for the job, emphasizing the need for a candidate who aligns with President Trump’s agenda, maintains strong stances on immigration and border security, is committed to reversing the nation’s fiscal decline, and embodies conservative principles.

In recent interviews, the Republican leader indicated that she would “love” to serve in the Senate and highlighted her experience on the Republican National Committee as a solid foundation to assume this new role.

Other names

Although Scott initially suggested several members of Congress for the job, he quickly settled on defending Lara Trump. However, public opinion on Trump as a possible candidate seems divided.

This endorsement joins other names that are also being considered, such as Jeanette Nuñez, the current lieutenant governor of Florida, and Ashley Moody, the state’s attorney general.
