Robert F. Kennedy Jr. is said to have sawed off a whale’s head

New bizarre animal story about Robert F. Kennedy Jr.: After revelations about the dropped-out presidential candidate and a bear carcass, a whale now comes into play.

A strange story about Robert F. Kennedy Jr., which is actually several years old, is making headlines in the US media. According to it, the politician – son of the assassinated US Senator Robert F. Kennedy and nephew of the also assassinated President John F. Kennedy – is said to have beheaded a dead whale on a beach with a chainsaw in the mid-1990s.

The story resurfaced over the weekend after the independent candidate for November’s presidential election announced his withdrawal from the race and pledged his support to Republican candidate Donald Trump. It originated in an interview that RFK’s daughter, Kick Kennedy, gave to Town & Country magazine in December 2012. The author wanted to use the anecdote to highlight her father’s extreme stance on the issue of environmental protection.

Robert F. Kennedy drove whale head home on car roof

According to the report, in 1994, Kennedy Jr. heard that a dead whale had washed up on a beach in Hyannis Port, Massachusetts. With a chainsaw and his then six-year-old Kick in tow, the environmental activist, who liked to study animal skulls and skeletons, rushed to the site. There he sawed off the whale’s head, tied it with ropes to the roof of his minivan, and began the five-hour drive back to the family home in New York State.

“Every time we accelerated on the highway, liquid from the whale would pour into the windows of the car, and it was the most disgusting thing in the world,” Kick recalled in the interview. “We all had plastic bags over our heads with the mouth holes cut out, and people on the highway would give us the finger, but that was just normal everyday life for us.”

In recent months, several bizarre animal stories about Kennedy have caused a stir: In May, the New York Times reported that doctors had discovered in 2010 that a parasitic worm had penetrated the 70-year-old’s brain and then died. Kennedy confirmed the report shortly afterwards.

“We thought it would be amusing”

In July, Vanity Fair wrote that Kennedy had sent a friend a photo of himself last year “with the grilled remains of a dog,” he claimed. The politician had implied that he had tried dog meat. Kennedy denied the report and said the dead animal in the photo was a goat.

At the beginning of August, Kennedy himself finally revealed on social media that he was the one who had disposed of a dead bear cub in New York’s Central Park more than a decade ago. According to his account, he initially took the bear, which had been hit by a truck, with him to dispose of it. However, after a dinner in New York, he left the carcass in the park and arranged the scene with an old bicycle to make it look as if the animal had been hit by a truck. “We thought it would be amusing for whoever found it,” Kennedy said in a video published on X.

Kennedy indicated that his revelation was intended to pre-empt a planned publication of the story by the New Yorker magazine.
