Haas replaces Magnussen with Bearman for Azerbaijan Grand Prix

KANNAPOLIS.- British teenager Oliver Bearman returned to Formula 1 ahead of schedule after the team Haas announced on Friday that he will replace the suspended Kevin Magnussen at the Azerbaijan Grand Prix next weekend.

Bearman signed in July to become a Haas driver in 2025 but will make an early appearance for the team in Baku next weekend after Magnussen was suspended for one race for penalty points.

Bearman, 19, usually races in Formula Two but impressed after finishing seventh on his F1 debut for Ferrari at the Saudi Arabian GP in March when Carlos Sainz Jr was sidelined with appendicitis.

“It’s definitely a bigger challenge to be in a race as a reserve driver, with little preparation and like that, but I feel lucky to be in this position and to have done it before with Ferrari this year, so I have that experience,” Bearman said in a statement from the team on Friday.

Bearman, who is a Ferrari academy driver, is one of Haas’ reserves this year. The other is Pietro Fittipaldi, who competes in IndyCar and has a race next week in Nashville.

Sabalenka advances to the US Open final

When everything suddenly became equal in the second set of Aryna Sabalenka’s US Open semi-final, and the cheers of the spectators at Arthur Ashe Stadium rose in favour of her American rival, the 2023 runner-up recalled what happened a year ago on the same stage.

“I was thinking, ‘Well, Aryna, you have to stay focused, focus on yourself,’” Sabalenka said. “And yes, I was thinking a lot.”

Under the lights of the Ashe Stadium on a cool night, Sabalenka advanced to her second consecutive US Open final by winning the last seven points to beat Emma Navarro 6-3, 7-6 (2) on Thursday in her usual style of risky tennis.
