MADRID.- The Spanish defender of Real Madrid, Raul Asencioprosecuted for having spread a sexual video in which a minor appeared, was declared innocent this Thursday by the Superior Court of Justice of Las Palmas (Canary Islands).
In a statement published this Thursday, the court stated that “no crime had been committed” by the 23-year-old player, following the withdrawal of the complaints from the two plaintiffs, to whom he had previously apologized.
Asencio had been charged in 2025, along with three former Real Madrid youth teammates, for his alleged involvement in the non-consensual recording and dissemination of sexual videos in which two young people aged 16 and 18 appeared.
The other three players: Ferran Ruiz, Juan Rodríguez and Andres Garciafound not guilty of disseminating intimate relationships without consent, were sentenced to one year in suspended prison for “child pornography” and must follow a sexual “re-education” course.
Asencio, who was not present at the time of the events, was being prosecuted for having shared these videos with a third party.
Hours before, his coach at Real Madrid, Jose Mourinhoconfirmed that the white club has opened “a disciplinary procedure” against Asencio, who on Wednesday was convicted of driving while intoxicated.
The 23-year-old player was intercepted by the police in Gran Canaria on August 16. He exceeded the legal alcohol limit three times and was fined 14,400 euros ($16,700), in addition to the withdrawal of his driving license for eight months.
“He is an exemplary professional. When he was physically well, no one trained as hard as him. Now that he is injured, for several weeks, he is the first to arrive and the last to leave,” Mourinho said at a press conference.
“Errors that accumulate”
“But a Real Madrid player continues to be one 24 hours a day, seven days a week, 12 months a year. And everything you do off the field of play represents Real Madrid and can harm the prestige of the club. I’m not happy. Mistakes, everyone makes them. But mistakes that accumulate, that’s something else,” he added.
Asencio, injured in his hamstring since mid-July, has not been called up by his new coach so far.
In the last two seasons he had established himself as a serious option in the center of Real Madrid’s defense, until he was called up by the Spanish team in 2025, although without making his debut.
