Carlos Alcaraz He valued having played a four-set match against the Portuguese Jaime Faria positively, since the match allowed him to see how his body was responding after almost five months away from the courts due to an injury.
The Spaniard won 4-6, 6-0, 6-3 and 6-2 in two hours and 40 minutes and admitted that, for some moments, he wanted the match to end as soon as possible. However, he later understood that the physical demands of the match could be beneficial in evaluating his recovery.
Alcaraz tests his recovery
The Murcian explained that playing four sets allowed him to check how he felt during the match and, especially, how his body would react after the effort. Alcaraz was satisfied for having been able to maintain a good level of tennis throughout the match.
The main concern after his return was to check the condition of the wrist that kept him away from competition since April. However, the Spaniard assured that he has been able to train normally and hit his forehand freely, without constantly thinking about the injury.
Alcaraz also highlighted the importance of regaining confidence in his movements and leaving behind the fear of the injury reappearing. Once on the court, he explained, his intention is to compete with the same intensity as before the injury and hit the ball naturally.
“There is no reason to be afraid”
The tennis player assured that he currently feels well and that he has no reason to change his way of playing for fear of injury. Their objective is to continue competing normally and evaluate their evolution match by match.
After beating Faria, Alcaraz already has his sights set on the third round, where he will face the Chinese Yibing Wu, located outside the Top 100 of the ATP rankings.
The victory represents a new step in the Spaniard’s return to the competition and, beyond the victory, allowed him to see how his body responds to the demands of a long match. With this test passed, Alcaraz will face his next challenge with the confidence of feeling like a competitive tennis player again.
