MADRID.- The defender of Real Madrid, Raúl Asencio, was convicted of drunk driving Gran Canaria in August, a judicial source confirmed to AFP this Wednesday.
The 23-year-old central defender had three times the legal alcohol limit and was fined 14,400 euros ($16,700), in addition to having his driving license revoked for eight months.
Asencio was convicted in a trial held in San Bartolome de Tirajanaa tourist town in the south of Gran Canaria (Canary Islands), after the incident that occurred on August 16.
The defender, a native of Gran Canaria, was not with the Real Madrid squad. Jose Mourinho at the time because he was still recovering from a hamstring injury he suffered in late July.
This week, Asencio faces another judicial process in Gran Canaria, related to the alleged non-consensual dissemination of a sex video recorded in 2023.
According to the Spanish press, Asencio hopes to be acquitted in that case if two women who appear in the recording formally forgive him.
Three other former Real Madrid reserve team players are also on trial for allegedly recording and distributing the video.
The trial is scheduled for September 3, 4 and 7.
Atleti gives up Uruguayan Giménez
The Uruguayan defender Atlético de Madrid, José María Giménezwill play this season on loan for the newly promoted Deportivo de La CoruñaThe Galician club reported this Tuesday.
“The central defender arrives on loan from Atlético de Madrid until June 2027, with a purchase option at the end of the loan period,” Dépor said in a statement.
The Galician team does not give more details of the operation, but, according to the Spanish press, Deportivo and Atlético will share the payment of the Uruguayan international’s salary.
Arrived at Atlético de Madrid in 2013 from DanubeGiménez quickly became a key piece for the team Diego Simeone.
The Uruguayan was vital for the defensive strength that characterized the first years of “Cholo” at the head of the rojiblanco team.
Then came the injuries that ended up keeping him from starting.
In the three games of the current season he has barely played 35 minutes.
