LOS ANGELES.- The former American football star Tony Romo This Tuesday he accepted the sanctions for driving under the influence of alcohol, although without admitting his guilt after being arrested last month by the police in USA.
Romo, 46 years old, was detained in the center of Milwaukee for reckless driving. He has since been suspended from his position as a sports commentator for CBS Sports.
The former quarterback, who played 14 seasons with the Dallas Cowboys in the NFL, said in a message on instagram who since retiring in 2017 developed an excessive dependence on alcohol.
“This morning I came to terms with a recent personal failure by pleading not guilty to a civil offense for driving under the influence in Wisconsin. “I take full responsibility,” he wrote.
“Several back surgeries ended my career sooner than I expected and left me in constant, debilitating pain,” he added.
“That pain led me to develop a dependency on painkillers, and my efforts to get off those medications led to an overdependence on alcohol.”
According to court documents, Romo was found guilty, banned from driving for six months and ordered to install an ignition interlock device when he returns to driving.
He must also complete an alcoholism evaluation program and pay a fine of $834.

No excuses
“None of this is an excuse. They are my mistakes and I take responsibility for them,” Romo said.
Finally, the former player asked that his privacy and that of his family be respected at this time.
“As I turn my attention to my health, my family, and eventually my return to CBS, I ask that my privacy be respected during this period.”
