Pope burial: Trump landed in Rome

US President Donald Trump ended up in Rome on Friday evening to take part in the burial of Pope Francis. The President and First Lady Melania Trump arrived at Leonardo da Vinci Airport in the Italian capital, as a traveling reporter from the AFP news agency reported. It is Trump’s first trip abroad since his return to the White House in January.

Francis, who died on Easter Monday at the age of 88, will be buried on Saturday in the presence of state and government heads from all over the world. Hundreds of thousands of people are expected at the funeral ceremony on St. Peter’s Square.

After the ceremony, the Pope’s coffin is brought to the papal basilica of Santa Maria Maggiore in the city center of Rome. There Francis is buried in a simple grave. At his own request, Francis has been the first Pope for more than a century that is not buried in St. Peter’s Basilica.
