The Federation Norway of Football (NFF) announces that it will request the resignation of Gianni Infantino as president of the FIFAconsidering that he no longer has the necessary institutional trust to continue leading the governing body of world football.
NFF president Lise Klaveness made the announcement during a press conference, a day after a meeting of the Norwegian federation’s governing bodies in which the situation at FIFA and Infantino’s leadership was analyzed.
Norway hardens its stance against Infantino
Klaveness assured that there is no room to regain confidence in the Swiss-Italian leader and affirmed that the federation will formally request his resignation. As he explained, the current situation requires solid and stable leadership, something that, in his opinion, Infantino can no longer offer.
The leader recalled that the Norwegian Federation has been one of the most critical voices with the management of the FIFA president in recent years, maintaining a firm position on different issues related to the governance of the organization.
Infantino has held the FIFA presidency since 2016 and, for now, is the only candidate for the elections scheduled for March 2027. To remain in office he will need the support of the majority of the 211 member federations with the right to vote.
The request for resignation also comes in the midst of a crisis for the top leader of world football, after the failure of his proposal to open FIFA to private investors, a project that was withdrawn days ago and which increased criticism of his management.
