In the hot phase of the US election campaign, a work of art appears showing the candidate Donald Trump. It’s not just the name of the project that is unflattering.
Unknown people have erected a 13 meter high statue of Donald Trump in the US state of Nevada, near the city of Las Vegas. It is attached to several ropes, weighs around 2,700 kilograms and shows the ex-president and current US Republican presidential candidate completely naked.
As the portal “TMZ” reports, the authors want to initiate “conversations about the election.” The naming and the style of the work reveal that the artists’ aim is to remember various missteps by Donald Trump.
Donald Trump as a puppet
The body, including the head, penis and extremities, was formed using foam over a framework made of reinforcing steel. The ropes with which the statue is erected on a crane arm give the impression of a huge puppet.
The creators, who have so far been anonymous, call their work the “Crooked and Obscene” project. The English word crooked means both crooked or wrong – a quite apt description of the statue. However, it also means corruptwhich can certainly be understood as a criticism of Trump’s behavior in the past.
Obscene, on the other hand, can be done with indecent translate. Here, too, this may be a reference to the statue itself, as it is naked, which is considered offensive – at least in large parts of the USA. Also in a figurative sense, referring to Trump’s previous behavior in public indecent a fitting but almost cautious assessment of his critics. According to the portal “The Wrap”, which is in contact with the organizers of the campaign, the naked depiction of Trump was “intentional and intended to be a clear statement about transparency, vulnerability and the public image of political figures.”
In the near future, the giant Donald will also be presented at other locations in the USA. According to “The Wrap”, it is not yet clear when and where exactly this will be.
