The ex-first lady recently withdrew from the public eye to care for her sick mother in a hospital in Miami, Florida, who was 78 years old. Donald Trump declared on New Year’s Eve that his mother-in-law was very ill, “but will hopefully recover.”
It is not known exactly what Amalija Knavs suffered from. The family originally comes from Slovenia. Melania moved to the USA in the mid-90s, her parents followed later. In 2018, Amalija and father Viktor were naturalized.
