Marlins arrive at the season among new disappointments

Not that fans of Miami Marlins They have many reasons to get excited about the beginning of the season of their combined, but with the passing of the days in spring, the fans of the south of Florida has seen how their hopes went from “few” to practically “non -existent.”

This week, those led by Clayton McCullough suffered blunt casualties on both sides of the game. First, the Dominican gardener Jesús Sánchez was out for the next four weeks with an injury to the left oblique.

“It’s a big piece for us,” McCullough admitted. “We were having him, but it is a situation in which the next in the row will have to step forward and it will be an opportunity for others to have a chance out there.”

The mandamás said that “we still have a good amount of options”, among which Derek Hill, Dane Myers, Griffin Conine and Kyle Stowers stand out.

But the Marlins had not finished digesting that news when a tower was collapsed from the other side of the diamond.

The Quequeyano Edward Cabrera will also begin the season in the incapacitated list, according to McCullough himself last Tuesday.

Cabrera, who in theory would lose his first two openings scheduled for the coming campaign, will be marginalized in the opening day of the campaign per second year.

The right abandoned its spring departure last Thursday (March 13) after just 12 pitching due to a blister on the middle finger of its hand of throwing. Cabrera was removed on Friday to accelerate his recovery and released his arm on Monday.

McCullough hopes that the serpentinero will launch a simulated game later in the week.

In its first four openings of the Spring Training, Cabrera could not overcome the barrier of the two innings or launch more than 51 shipments.

The shotshot has had problems with blisters on that finger before. He had to be registered in the list of injured in October 2021 for that same reason and the accident also affected him in at least three of his openings in 2023, including two in which he had to leave the game early.

Likewise, the Dominican said he was dealing with a blister in the previous season and also in his second spring opening of this year, in which he tolerated six races and four hits, with two tickets and another pair of balls, in just one entrance and two thirds.

Alternatives

As with Sanchez in the alignment, the fish also have some options to replace Cabrera in the rotation. Valente Bellozo and the prospect Adam Mazur, who were sent to the minor leagues camp a few days ago, are emerging as the main alternatives.

On the other hand, Connor Gillispie, who opened the Marlins duel on Tuesday, is another letter available on the table for the club.

But as much as McCullough tries to call calm within the very disappointed hobby of Miami, the reality is that the panorama looks less and less encouraging for a team that comes from losing 100 games in 2024.
