Influencer and boxer Jake Paul acknowledged that his boxing career could be in danger due to complications arising from the broken jaw he suffered in his fight against Anthony Joshua at the end of last year.
Paul fell by knockout in the sixth round to the former world heavyweight champion in a fight in Miami, suffering the first KO loss of his professional career.
A more serious injury than expected
The American explained that his jaw was fractured in two places and that he had to undergo emergency surgery the day after the fight. However, complications continued months later.
“They are going to do new studies this week to find out how the recovery process is going,” Paul declared on Ariel Helwani’s program.
The boxer revealed that in February he had to undergo a second surgery after the plates and screws placed in the first intervention came loose.
In addition, he confirmed that he lost a tooth and will probably need an implant, which could further delay his recovery.
“We still don’t know if I will be able to fight again. That possibility exists,” he admitted.
Jake Paul doesn’t want to retire
Despite the medical uncertainty, Paul made it clear that he still intends to continue in boxing.
“Those thoughts have appeared, but I am not finished,” he said.
The YouTuber turned boxer assured that he feels that he still has “pending fights” and that he does not want to close his career in this way.
Paul currently has a record of 12 wins and 2 losses as a professional and has starred in some of the most high-profile boxing events in recent years, including his fight against Mike Tyson in November 2024, which he won by unanimous decision.
Anthony Joshua stopped his rise
The loss to Joshua represented the biggest challenge of Paul’s career and put on hold the growth he had experienced within professional boxing.
Although there is still no estimated date for his return, the American hopes to receive positive news after the new medical tests that will be carried out this week.
