The founder and director of the Marathon and Half Marathon Time from Miami, Frankie RuizHe informed that 18,500 quotas for the 24th Edition of the traditional Pedestre test, scheduled for January 25.
The inscriptions were opened last August 1 and 10 days later there was no single quota left.
“For the fifth consecutive year, fans responded spectacularly,” said Ruiz. “We are completely full and that, at the same time, gives us a lot of pride and worries us a little because there are people who stayed out.”
Ruiz said there are still hope for athletes who did not arrive on time have a new opportunity.
“As soon as the spaces were filled, I began to receive messages from people who lamented if it could not be noted,” added the manager. “Very soon (perhaps this week) the waiting list will open and when cancellations or deferred begin to arrive for 2027 we will open quotas.”
In previous editions, the organizers of the tests opened a waiting list of more than 1,000 spaces and at the time of the start there were about 20,000 participants.
Colombia and Mexico are the most registered countries, Peru, Brazil and Guatemala follow.
The contact between Life Time and marathon clubs is permanent in the United States and especially in Latin America, where most participants arrive.
Athletes from the 50 States of the Union and 75 countries around the world will enter into action in this great event of sport, health and friendship.
The last details
Although we are five months after the race, Ruiz informed that he begins to accelerate the step to finalize details.
“In general there will be no major changes with respect to the previous edition, although I always prepare some surprise,” said the manager. “You still have to solve several things; for example, some points under construction on the route, especially on the east side of MacArthur Causeway, where a pedestrian bridge is built and we already have an appointment with the authorities and engineers so that there are no interruptions or hazards for the runners.”
As for the entrance to McCarthur Causeway from Biscayne Boulevar there will be no variants until 2027, when the works are finished.
“That area is very close to the start of the race, which is at the height of the Kaseya Center,” said Ruiz. “There is narrow the route due to construction and that is why we have a limited number of participants.”
Ruiz left open the possibility of increasing the quotas of the Miami marathon when the work in the i95 is completed.
“The goal is to give a satisfactory experience to athletes,” added the manager. “In the last edition, more than 10,000 people scored in the waiting list. We could have accepted them and we would have won a lot of money, but that is not about. We proclaim the physical and mental health of the people, and that is the goal.”
Great euphoria
The enthusiasm for races in southern Florida increased considerably in recent years, said the manager.
“We organize races 50 weeks a year with the different clubs of the city,” said Ruiz. “There are clubs in Brickell, Miami Beach, Coral Gables, etc. and runners from everywhere. The number of club participants remains strong and we have increased between 20 and 25 percent those that run with us every week.”
Ruiz emphasized that this desire to run satisfies several aspects in people, because it not only serves to stay in a good physical form and be healthy, but also to promote social relationships. Friends are made in the careers and communes are shared.
The Fondistas weekend program begins on Friday, January 23, with the inauguration of the Expo at the Convention Center in Miami Beach. There the athletes collect their credentials, numbers and equipment. And they also get in touch with the latest news of sports implements, nutrition, therapies, physical preparation and everything related to athletics.
The Expo lasts until Saturday. That day also runs the 5K, where you can still find quotas.
On Sunday, the marathon and half marathon start at 6 am, which runs through the most emblematic places in Miami.
