MIAMI.- IDEA Group members issued a statement on Friday in which they reject the coup d’état represented by Nicolás Maduro’s electoral fraud in Venezuela. As they pointed out, it is a threat to popular sovereignty.
“This decision constitutes a typical coup d’état against popular sovereignty, expressed in the clear decision of the Venezuelan people to elect Edmundo González Urrutia as President of the Republic on July 28, as confirmed by the technical reports of the UN, the OAS and the Carter Center,” the statement said.
He added: “We stress that if this coup d’état is consummated, a final blow will have been dealt to all the essential elements of democracy in Venezuela.”
