After the return of King Charles III. After Great Britain, a senior adviser to the royal palace has praised the monarch’s state visit to the USA as “historic”. The speech given by Charles on the occasion of the 250th anniversary of the United States was “of great moment,” the adviser involved in the visit told journalists on Sunday. The British media was also full of praise for Charles.

The British King’s state visit to the USA was a “risk and a challenge,” said the unnamed adviser. Charles “grabbed it with both hands”.

The king emphasized the importance of NATO and called for a “just and lasting peace” in Ukraine – despite US President Donald Trump’s critical stance towards the Western military alliance and towards Ukrainian head of state Volodymyr Zelensky. This is a sign of “how much this is personally important to him.” It proves that Charles “will always be guided by the truth.”

The adviser rejected alleged discrepancies in the cordiality of bilateral relations. He stressed that the king’s visit was at the request of the British government and that there was “no competition” between the monarchy and Downing Street. On the contrary – the king and queen “could help the government.” The king himself found the US part of his trip to be particularly “positive”.

The Daily Telegraph newspaper described Charles’ visit as a “triumph” and “reaffirmation of our shared values.” The “Times” rated the state visit as a “splendid success.”

“I think it was a personal triumph” for Charles, royal commentator Richard Fitzwilliams told the AFP news agency. He referred to the King’s “excellent” speech to Congress with “brilliant jokes.” “He did everything right and every nuance seemed perfect. Everyone liked it,” Fitzwilliams said. In his assessment, Charles’ visit proved to be a “boost” at a “very difficult time for the monarchy.”

Charles returned to the United Kingdom on Sunday after his four-day state visit to the United States and a subsequent trip to the British overseas territory of Bermuda. The British head of state met US President Trump in the USA. Relations between London and Washington are currently tense.

The highlight of the trip was Charles’ speech to the US Congress on Tuesday. His appearance was the first speech by a British monarch to Congress since an address by his late mother Queen Elizabeth II in 1991. The address was greeted with a standing ovation by MPs. Charles touched on numerous sensitive topics, including the fight against climate change, support for Ukraine and the importance of NATO.
