French justice registers the headquarters of the Professional Football League

The French authorities carried out searches this Tuesday at the headquarters of the Professional Football League (LFP) and in that of the CVC fund, judicial sources informed AFP, confirming information from the newspaper L’Equipe.

The records are part of the investigation opened by the National Financial Prosecutor’s Office for suspicions of diversion of public funds, active and passive corruption of public money and influence peddling, the judicial source said.

The case began in November of last year after a complaint from the association AC! Anticorruption for a possible diversion of public funds in the creation of the commercial company of the French LFPafter a partial transfer of capital to the Luxembourg investment fund CVC Capital Partners.

The agreement signed in April 2022 between the LFP and CVC provides for a contribution of 1.5 billion euros to French professional football in exchange for 13.04% of its lifetime income for CVC.

The french justice investigates the conditions of this agreement and the role of its various protagonists.

According to L’Equipe, the home of LFP president Vincent Labrune was also searched, although AFP was unable to confirm this information.

The agreement has also sparked political interest and last April a parliamentary commission was created to study it, although for the moment it has been left aside so as not to interfere in the judicial investigation.
