Almost three years after the beginning of the Ukraine War, delegations from the United States and Russia come together for talks in Riad on Tuesday. Foreign Minister Marco Rubio, National Security Advisor Mike Waltz and Middle East Sonderstand, Steve Witkoff, take part in the meeting, Moscow is represented by Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrow and Presidential advisor Juri Uschakow.
According to Russian information, the meeting should primarily be about restoring bilateral relationships. A possible meeting between US President Donald Trump and Russia’s President Vladimir Putin should also be prepared. In addition, there is talk of “possible negotiations on a resolution on Ukraine” in Riad. Trump had surprisingly held a telephone conversation with Kremlin boss Putin last week and, according to his own words, agreed to the “immediate” start of negotiations on the future of Ukraine.
