Father of Barcelona star discharged from hospital after stabbing

MADRID.- The father of the young star of BarcelonaLamine Yamal, left the hospital after being discharged from the hospital two days after being stabbed in the Catalan town of Mataró following an argument.

Antena 3 television channel showed images of Mounir Nasraoui with some friends in his neighbourhood of Mataró, some 30 km north of Barcelona. The player’s father posted a message on his Instagram account hugging his mother and giving her a kiss.

In another message, Nasraoui thanked his friends, who quickly arrived at the scene of the stabbing “and stood by me,” as well as the police, especially the officer who “plugged the wound in my chest which was the one that was bleeding the most.”

“He grabbed my hand and didn’t let go until the end so I wouldn’t lose consciousness,” she added about the officer.

The attack took place on Wednesday night in a car park in the Rocafonda neighbourhood of Mataró, where Yamal’s grandmother lives and where the player grew up.

Neither the police nor Nasraoui have clarified the details of the incident, but according to the Spanish newspaper La Vanguardia, the player’s father was walking in Rocafonda when water fell on him from a balcony where a child was playing.

Nasraoui protested and soon became involved in an argument with the boy’s family in which the police had to intervene to separate them, an intervention that was filmed by some neighbors and spread on social networks.

The men later summoned Nasraoui, claiming they wanted to make peace, but ended up stabbing him, also according to La Vanguardia.

Arrests

Four people were arrested for the attack and appeared before the judge on Friday, who remanded one of them in custody without bail and released the rest on bail, in an investigation for “attempted murder and injuries,” the court said in a statement.

Yamal made his debut for FC Barcelona at the age of 15 in April 2023 and became a key player for the Catalans last season.

The Spaniard also played a very important role in the victory of the Spanish national team in the European Championship, which they won for the fourth time, and became the youngest player to play and score in the history of this competition.

Yamal’s father and grandmother still live in Rocafonda and the young player often celebrates his goals by making the ‘304’ sign with his hands, the neighbourhood’s postal code.

Nasraoui became famous during the Euros for his activity on social media and in the media, frequently posting content supporting his son.
